 Farm Yarns and Handspun

Lamb Camp - Old Friends

Our next series of small batch farm yarns comes from Rocky and Jared's old flock at Tring Farm.  During shearing we set aside all the nicest fleeces for handspinners, but sadly the older sheep's fleeces are mostly used for mulch around the farm.

These fleeces tend to be from some of our favorite sheep.  The older ewes who have worked hard raising lambs or helping train young stock dogs.  Sometimes they are just friends who greet us when we come into the barn.

I'd started working with punch needle rug design and wanted a home grown yarn to dye for that so thought these fleeces would be perfect.  The yarn turned out perfectly nice for knitting, crocheting and weaving as well.

Lamb Camp - The Bottle Lambs

This yarn was originally offered as a very special limited edition kit that included a booklet of short stories about each lamb, a small project bag, an ornament, some spring Lamb Camp stitch markers a project tag and a bag of Vanilla Wafers :-).  You can read more about it on this post.

The kits are sold out, but there are a few skeins of yarn left and Saint Tim printed some more booklets.  Each skein of light worsted weight yearn is 250 yards and weighs approximately 4 ounces.

The yarn is $25 per skein and the booklets are $7.50.

Lamb Camp Legacy Yarn

This limited edition single batch yarn was grown on Tring Farm (Maisie, Ewen and B. Willard's home farm :-) in Harrison County, Kentucky, by the sons and daughters of two of our very favorite sheep, Rocky and Jared, who now live here.

Rocky and Jared are Cotswold crosses and the ewes are crosses of North Country Cheviots and Polypays and maybe a little Dorset, so the blend is a lovely mix of crimpy down type wool with a lovely long wool drape and luster.

I've knit a sample of each color and dyed and knit the Forest for the Trees hat.  I just finished the Agate Cove Hat using all three natural colors.  I also wove a doll house rug for a friend and I am very happy with this fun and useful yarn.  I hope you enjoy it as well.

Each skein of DK weight wool yarn is 250 yards and weighs approximately 3.5 ounces (grays) and 4 ounces (white - the heavier end of DK).  I can also skein off unwashed yarn for weaving (for maximum fulling).

$18 per skein

Lamb Camp Yarn

Sold Out...but the pictures are still so darn cute ;-).

You love their lambs.  You'll love their yarn.  Pre-played with by baby Liddy!  Remember that funny series of pictures?  Go back and look.  The beauty of browsing :-).

Awesome Lamb Camp Yarn hat and mittens knit by Karen Battersby :-).

The Lamb Camp Yarn was spun from the ewes at Final Frontier Farm in Paris, Kentucky, a favorite Lamb Camp destination.  They are Keebler, Blossom, Lila and Liddy's moms, cousins, sisters, aunties...

The majority of the flock is a Texel cross with some Polypay, Columbia and Suffok mixed in with some wool breed influence from Cotswold, Wensleydale, Border Leicester and Finn.  Like the ewes themselves, the wool is a beautiful combination of sturdy softness and no nonsense work ethic, perfect for sweaters, vest, hats, mittens, woven throws...  This semi-lustrous yarn dyes wonderfully.

Each worsted weight skein is approximately 195 yards and weighs approximately 3.5 ounces.  You may find some bits of hay and straw mixed in, but that picks out and it's comforting to know that it wasn't dissolved out with strong chemicals.

$14 per skein Five or more skeins $13 each
